• Ensure that the organisation'scare service's parental leave policy is clearly worded.

  • Make sure that managers understand the right to parental leave and are aware of who is entitled to the leave and what the notification requirements are.

  • Ensure that employees are aware of the eligibility criteria, the notification requirements and the procedure they need to follow to apply for parental leave.

  • Inform employees that they may have to produce some documentary evidence of their right to take parental leave.

  • Make clear to employees that any parental leave taken with a previous employer for an individual child counts towards the 18-week entitlement.
