Outings are an important part of children's learning and development. They are vital if the children are to explore the wider community and to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of the world.
Outings should be a regular event within a provision, but they need to be correctly planned, risk assessed and given the right level of supervision to ensure that the event is safe and enjoyable for all the children.
The Early Years Foundation Stage states: “In provisions where outdoor play space cannot be provided, outings should be planned and taken on a daily basis (unless circumstances make this inappropriate, for example unsafe weather conditions).”
