The principal considerations of traffic accident procedure should be established as follows:
switch off engines
take fire precautions
prevent further injury
give priority to emergency vehicles
ensure the comfort and convenience of passengers.
In most countries, it is a legal obligation to place warning triangles at the scene, otherwise it is good practice. In the event of two or more vehicles being involved in an accident, these should take account of overtaking and oncoming traffic and should be strategically sited having regard to local circumstances such as bends in the road at, or approaching, the scene.
