This policy relates to the handing of bariatric or “plus size” service users who weigh 25 stone (158kg) or more.
It is the aim of the organisation to reduce the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries caused by the manual handling of bariatric or “plus size” service users and to reduce the risk of injury for the service users themselves.
The care provider recognises that bariatric or “plus size” service users will present additional challenges and risks for staff where manual handling is concerned.
The organisation recognises the risks involved with moving and handling operations and is aware of tragic accidents that have caused injuries and even death to service users in the health and care sectors in the past.
