There are a number of aspects that distinguish medical staff from others who work and practice in the NHS but in the management of individual performance they are very different. The performance of all other staff can be conveniently monitored and managed with reference to the disciplinary procedure of the organisation and, if necessary, the law.
While medical staff are subject to these rules as well, they are, in addition, subject to a number of policies and procedures which have been developed specifically for them.
