Summary
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSWR) are regulations made under the Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974 (HSWA). The regulations supplement and extend the general duties contained in HSWA and introduce a general duty on employers to carry out risk assessments. They further implement the major provisions of the European Union health and safety Framework Directive (89/391/EEC).
Employers' Duties
The MHSWR 1999 contain the following duties for employers.
Employers have a duty to carry out suitable and sufficient assessments of the risks faced by their employees and children in their care, and other visitors to the premises.
