Lifting equipment is the general term for work equipment used for lifting or lowering loads and includes attachments for anchoring the equipment, fixing or supporting it.
There are general guidelines to follow for the selection, use and maintenance of lifting equipment. It should be noted that there is an important link between the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), which apply to all work equipment including lifting equipment. Therefore, it must be remembered that, for the provision and use of lifting equipment, compliance with all relevant aspects of PUWER is required as well as complying with LOLER.
