ISO 50001 is a certifiable energy management system (EnMS) standard applicable to any organisation, large or small, in any sector. Participation is voluntary.
An EnMS provides a structured approach to continually improving energy performance and assisting an organisation to achieve compliance with various legal requirements, become more environmentally friendly and deliver business benefits.
ISO 50001 sets out the requirements for EnMS implementation, including the energy policy and objectives, significant energy uses, monitoring, measurement and analysis and the continual improvement of energy performance.
See the ISO 50001 Checklist of Requirements for a step-by-step guide to implementation and gaining certification. See Energy Management for in-depth guidance on managing energy.
