EC Regulation 1907/2006 on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) has brought about widespread changes to the management of chemicals in the EU. Full registration is required for new substances placed on the market in a quantity of 1t per year or more on or after 1 June 2008.
REACH came into force on 1 June 2007, albeit with some longer transitional provisions for some of its requirements. Initially, the changes required were rather limited, being slight adjustments to the safety data sheet (SDS).
From the 1st January 2021, the UK has its own version of REACH. This topic covers EU REACH only.
