Air quality is a term used to describe how polluted the air people breath is. When air quality is poor, pollutants in the air may be hazardous to people, particularly those with lung or heart conditions.

Discussions about air quality typically concern outdoor or environmental air quality. However, indoor air quality is a key issue in buildings design, maintenance and use.

Poor indoor air quality in a workplace is thought to contribute towards high levels of occupational illness, poor performance and employee dissatisfaction with indoor environmental quality. It is also increasingly seen as an important public health issue in domestic homes.
