General Points

  • Expert advice should be sought before positioning fixed machinery and equipment to ensure safety requirements are met.

  • Safety checks should be carried out at least once an academic year, with items such as transparent guards and cutters being checked every time they are used.

  • All machines that are connected to an isolator and wired through a stop-button system should be tested for electrical safety at least once a year by a trained, competent person. If they fail any of the tests, they should not be used again until they have been upgraded or repaired by a qualified electrician.
