Schools should implement standards for good performance, and procedures for dealing with members of staff who do not attain the required standards of competence and capability. If an employee is dismissed for poor performance, the right not to be unfairly dismissed applies, subject to the normal qualifying period.

Most schools deal with capability under a separate procedure from that used for misconduct (although there is some overlap between the two). Dealing with misconduct is covered in the Handling Disciplinary Issues topic.
