The right to request flexible working was built into the Employment Rights Act 1996, and was extended as a right for parents under the Work and Families Act 2006.
Under the provisions of the Flexible Working Regulations 2014, the right to request flexible working was extended to all employees with 26 weeks’ continuous service.

have worked for the organisation continuously for at least 26 weeks as at the date the application is made
not have made another application to work flexibly during the previous 12 months.
