• Make sure all managers understand the right to request flexible working and that it applies currently to all employees with a minimum of 26 weeks’ continuous service. (This does not prevent an employer agreeing or arranging flexible working in an employment contract.)

  • Check that an employee who has requested flexible working has at least 26 weeks’ continuous employment.

  • Line managersSenior staff who will be dealing with the request should all have received the requisite training.

  • Check that any application for flexible working contains all the required information.

  • Check that the employee has not previously made an application for flexible working within the last year.
