Classes of Fire

Fires are classified by the types of fuel they burn. The EU EN3 standard recognises the following classes of fire.

  • Class A fires (SOLIDS) are fueled by combustible solids such as wood, paper, plastic, rubbish or anything else that burns and leaves an ash. Water is effective with these fires as it has a cooling effect.
