Summary

Motor vehicles have potentially harmful effects in terms of noise and exhaust pollution. While great improvements have been made in terms of vehicle technology, such improvements relate only to new vehicles; in order to limit the harmful effects, it is also necessary to impose restrictions on the operation of vehicles at particular times and places.

Employers' Duties

Employers should ensure that:

  • vehicles are properly maintained so that they do not produce excessive exhaust or noise emissions

  • if their vehicles are to enter environmentally controlled zones, they comply with the requirements on minimum exhaust emissions or pay any charge
