This organisation recognises that energy is a major expense for most businesses, with the main costs coming from the heating and lighting of buildings. Energy also has a considerable carbon cost to the environment which contributes to climate change and global warming. Modern countries are therefore under pressure to act in an environmentally friendly way and develop sustainable policies for energy production and energy usage. These pressures include international commitments to reduce carbon emissions, such as the Paris climate agreement, and regulatory incentives such as those introduced under the Climate Change Act 2008 and the Energy Act 2013.
