Social media can be defined as a wide array of web-based tools and platform that allows individuals and organisations to create, access, enhance and share an enormous amount of information, including personal data.
There has been a massive rise in the use of social media in recent years — that is, the use of Facebook and Twitter accounts, emails and the Internet, professional accounts such as LinkedIn and many more examples. Social media can certainly be an effective marketing and recruitment tool but its use also raises a number of employment law issues for employers and employees, not least the distinction between its private and professional use in the workplace.
