Ecodesign — ISO 14006: 2020

A growing number of organisations are recognising the need to include environmental performance in the design of their products as a way of mitigating environmental impacts and improving resource efficiency.

Traditionally, organisations tend to consider product impacts only in the manufacturing stage, neglecting to take a lifecycle perspective, which is the cornerstone of ecodesign. ISO 14006 is an integrated process that aims to reduce environmental impacts and improve environmental performance of products systematically throughout their lifecycle, from raw material extraction to end of life. It is intended to be used by organisations that have implemented an environmental management system (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001, but it can also be used to integrate ecodesign in other management systems.
