Within the care home environment, contractors can be engaged to perform a wide and varied range of tasks. This could include relatively routine tasks, such as grounds maintenance, building maintenance or the servicing of equipment. It can also include larger scale work, such as the construction of extensions or new buildings, or more hazardous work, such as entering into confined spaces, working at height (window cleaning or roof work) or maintenance of gas or electrical systems. In addition, care organisations will often employ contracted care or administrative staff in the form of agency staff.

This topic covers the setting up of contractor arrangements and safety arrangements required when contractors are working on a care home site.
