Any supplier making a substance or mixture available to another person (including importation of a mixture into Great Britain) is obliged to ensure it is properly classified.
Suppliers shall not supply a dangerous substance or mixture unless it is labelled as specified in the EC Regulation 1272/2008 on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP Regulation).
The aims of the CLP regulation are to:
identify hazardous properties that a product has, eg flammable, corrosive, aquatic toxicity
determine the severity of the hazard, through hazard categories
