There are a range of reasons why a deliberate chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) incident may occur, such as the action of a disgruntled employee, but in the wake of recent attacks in the UK and the rest of the world, it is necessary to be ever more vigilant to the threat of terrorist activity. Those in workplaces where there is the possibility of a CBRN incident need to take particular care.

CBRN materials can also be released accidentally, and can lead to the loss of life, contamination of the built and open environment, disruption of society and consequential damage to the UK economy. It is therefore important that emergency plans are in place to ensure that people can react quickly and effectively in the event of an incident.
