Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is used in conjunction with other security systems, either for identification or surveillance reasons. CCTV may also provide a level of deterrence as well as evidence in the event of an unwanted event occurring. It should only be used if proportionate to the need and if all other security options have been considered. It is not a complete security solution, as it should be linked with an access control or intruder detection system.
