Buildings transfer thermal energy through their fabric, partly though heat escaping from a warm location to a cooler one, and partly due to the need for adequate ventilation.
Conversely in warmer weather and summer solar gain, a well-insulated building will reduce the possibility of the building overheating and reduce the need for artificial cooling, saving considerable additional energy.
