High-quality teaching and leadership are essential elements in school effectiveness. Schools, therefore, need to have robust arrangements in place for managing performance, over a 12-month period and usually in line with the previous academic year, and for promoting professional development.

Employers' Duties

The Head has a responsibility to:

  • review the performance management of all teachers in the school

  • draft the performance management policy for the governing body

  • monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of performance management

  • apply the performance management processes and procedures fairly and consistently throughout the school
