The Equality Act 2010, in general, makes it unlawful for employers to discriminate against job applicants on the grounds of age, unless they can show objective justification for their actions.

However, myths and stereotypes about age abound, and individuals responsible for recruitment and employment decisions need to take great care not to allow assumptions and personal attitudes related to age to inadvertently influence their decisions.
