Advanced driver assistance systems bring not only convenience, but also great safety advantages and new regulations are ensuring that systems already being provided by manufacturers on some vehicles are installed on all new ones. The ultimate combination of these systems amounts to an autonomous vehicle and while the use of fully autonomous vehicles on the road is some way away, harmonised rules and technical requirements are being laid down now.

Employers' Duties

Employers should:

  • ensure all drivers are familiar with the characteristics and operation of advanced driver and safety systems

  • develop a policy on the temporary deactivation of safety systems and communicate it to all drivers
