Introduce a policy on adoption leave if the organisationcare service does not already have one.
Ensure that all managers understand the statutory entitlement to adoption leave and pay and are familiar with the organisation’s policy and procedure on adoption leave.
Note that police officers are excluded from the statutory right to take adoption leave; however, individual force policies may make certain provisions for police officers with regard to adoptions. Police staff do qualify for statutory adoption leave as employees.
Ensure that all managers understand how they should handle a request for adoption leave.
