Oxidizing agents can be violently self-reactive and produce burns.

First Action

  1. Instruct others to keep at a safe distance, well away from the spillage area.

  2. Eliminate all sources of ignition.

  3. Open laboratory windows, if possible and close laboratory doors on way out.

Aim to ventilate the area, but isolate the material.

  4. Taking into account all immediate circumstances decide whether to:

    1. control the spillage, or

    2. evacuate the building by sounding the fire alarm and call the fire brigade.

Small Spills

  1. Contain the spillage using any available appropriate medium, such as sand, earth, absorbent granules such as vermiculite. If available add a small amount of sodium carbonate mixture.
