Environment Agency v Wessex Water, 23 November 2018

On 23 November 2018, the Environment Agency (EA) announced that it had accepted an offer from Wessex Water following a series of sewage spills. It said that Wessex Water was owner and operator of a sewage treatment works near Swanage Bay, Dorset. Between 2016 and 2017, a series of sewage spillages occurred, where an estimated 142,000m3 of sewage was discharged into the sea.

Environment Agency v Colson Transport Limited and Ryan Colson, 14 September 2018

Nottingham Magistrates’ Court was told on 14 September 2018 that Ryan Colson, of Westfield Avenue, Heanor, Derbyshire, is the Director of Colson Transport Limited, a waste transfer company based at Bulwell Lane in Old Basford, Nottingham. In 2013, Mr Colson and his company took over the site from the previous operators. A working plan which covered the site was not updated, rendering it “inadequate”, the court was told.
