We have a considerable amount of work equipment on site. There is a planned maintenance programme in place but it has also been suggested that all the plant and equipment should be subject to regular inspections. Is this the case?

A

Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, employers may have a duty to undertake inspections on work equipment. In summary, regulation 6 requires inspections to be undertaken when the:

  • safety of the work equipment depends on the installation conditions

  • work equipment is exposed to conditions causing deterioration that is liable to result in dangerous situations.
