Q

Are there additional considerations when planning safe adult social care provision during a Covid-19 winter?

A

This winter there are more considerations to account for in relation to the impact of Covid-19, as well as flu and seasonal illnesses, and cold weather conditions. The UK Health Security Agency’s (UKHSA’s) Cold Weather Health Risks and COVID-19 Actions to Prevent Harm, issued October 2021, says Covid-19 is likely to amplify the risks of cold weather, and there may be additional health and care needs above “usual” winter pressures on people. It lists risk factors linked with worse outcomes from Covid-19 that are also risks for cold-related harms.
