What are the changes to regulations that have come into force to enable a wider range of healthcare workers to administer potential coronavirus (Covid-19) and flu vaccines?

A

An expanded workforce is needed to ensure a Covid-19 vaccine can be widely and safely deployed as soon as it becomes available, given capacity constraints of those currently able to administer vaccines.

Following a three-week consultation by the UK Government, in conjunction with the Minister of Health in Northern Ireland, amendments to the Human Medicine Regulations (HMRs) 2012, enabling a wider group of healthcare professionals to be trained to administer vaccinations, came into force on 16 October 2020.
