Wheelchair users and fire doors

Our premises have a number of self-closing fire doors on the corridors. A new employee uses a wheelchair and we are concerned that she may have difficulty opening these doors. What action could we take to resolve this issue?

Our premises have a number of self-closing fire doors on the corridors. A new employee uses a wheelchair and we are concerned that she may have difficulty opening these doors. What action could we take to resolve this issue?

Clearly, there is a need to ensure that the individual is not discriminated against under the requirements of the Equality Act 2010 but also to ensure that fire safety measures (including fire doors on self-closers) are not compromised, eg by being wedged open to allow access around the premises, thereby causing potential issues under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
