Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has announced an early roll-out of “free places” from this September. What are free places and how will the scheme work? Will two-year-olds be entitled to a free early education place?

Currently, all three- and four-year-olds are entitled to 15 hours per week of free education for 38 weeks per year. They are eligible for this free education for two years before reaching the compulsory school age.
