Takeaway food waste

Research published in May 2020 by Just Eat and the Sustainable Restaurant Association, found that every year in the UK, £376m worth of food waste occurs in takeaway outlets, while households waste takeaway food is worth £1.4bn.

The lockdown has changed consumer attitudes to food. Reports show that people who value their food more, are more conscious of waste and are doing more home cooking. However, the effect on the takeaway food sector has not been consistent. A third of takeaway employees questioned in a recent survey, Food Waste Has Got to Go, reported that food waste in their business had increased during the lockdown.
