How can early years providers support children’s oral health?
The most common reason for children aged 5 to 9 years to be admitted to hospital in England is tooth decay and the need for tooth extractions. This shocking statistic is largely preventable. It means that the oral health and dental hygiene routines established from birth are vital to ensure that this problem can be significantly reduced. Children with a high level of disease in their primary set of teeth can go on to have difficulties in their adult teeth also, so the long-term impact of poor dental hygiene in childhood can lead to life-long health problems.
