Is extended GP access going to be supported in 2021/22, during Covid-19 pandemic pressures?
Back in February 2020, NHS England, NHS Improvement (NHSEI), and the British Medical Association (BMA) guaranteed in the Update to the GP Contract Agreement that at least £30 million of the £150 million Investment and Impact Fund (IIF) would be used to incentivise improvements in access for patients.
Only minor changes were agreed to the GP contract for 2021/22 amid ongoing Covid-19 pandemic pressures. As agreed in the previous year, the £30 million IIF would still be used to incentivise improved access for patients, although there was no decision on how the rest of the funding will be used.
