As a business you have a statutory Duty of Care for waste which includes a duty to take the waste hierarchy into account. In practical terms, this means taking steps to move waste “up the hierarchy” from disposal to recovery, recycling and reuse. You also have a statutory duty to “pretreat” waste which is destined for landfill; this normally involves segregating out one or more waste streams for recycling.
