Children learn through their senses. These consist of the better-known senses such as sound, sight, touch, taste, and smell. In addition, there are the proprioception (sense of the body in space) and vestibular (sense of balance and spatial orientation) senses. The senses are the way in which we understand the world around us. They are the conduit of messages from the outside to the brain. For example, the sense of touch will tell us if something is too cold or too hot or painful.
