Q

Is there any guidance for early years providers on keeping children safe in the sun during a heatwave?

A

It is vital that early years providers know how to keep children safe in the sun during the warmer months. Sunburn can cause considerable pain and discomfort in the short term but too much sun exposure can also cause far more serious dangers in the long term, including skin damage, eye damage and skin cancer. Children cannot control their body temperature as efficiently as adults during hot weather as they do not sweat as much and therefore they can also be at risk of dehydration, heat stress and potentially life-threatening heatstroke.
