What is the ReSPECT project and what relevance does it have for primary care?
Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment (ReSPECT) is a process whereby a person can be helped to make a summary of their personalised wishes for their clinical care for use in any future emergency where they may be unable to make or express their choices. Such emergencies may include death or cardiac arrest, but are not limited to those events. The summary plan can then be used by health and care professionals responding to the emergency to inform immediate decisions about the person’s care and treatment.
Using the ReSPECT summary plan means that those health and care professionals can confidently take actions that they know are in keeping with the persons expressed wishes.
