We are taking on a job to demolish a building that contains an asbestos-containing material (ACM) in the form of a textured decorative coating. I assume we are required to remove this material before demolition takes place?

Not necessarily, removal of ACMs in the form of textured decorative coating (also known as Artex), prior to demolition is to be done if it is reasonably practicable to do so. This means weighing up the time, cost and effort of removal against the actual health and safety risks removal poses.
