Is it a good move to switch from recyclable plastic containers (for food, say) to compostable or biodegradable plastic containers?

This is quite a tricky question, as both types of plastic container have advantages and disadvantages.

WRAP, in its new Clear on Plastics campaign, has come down strongly on the side of recyclable plastic. The clearonplastic.com website states that “It’s more beneficial to the environment and the economy to use plastic packaging that can be recycled.”
