Following a review, my employer wishes to improve our current practices in relation to mental health issues at work. I have been asked to provide a brief on how we can improve the promotion of mental health issues. Could you advise me on what we could do?

The World Health Organisation defines mental health as “a state of well-being” in which an individual “realises their own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to their community”.

In general, employment has a positive effect on a person’s mental health. However, various factors in or outside the workplace can cause stress or increase the risk of developing or worsening existing mental health problems.
