What are your top tips for a plastic-free office — or at least, an office that throws away less plastic than we do at present?

After representatives of the global “big names” like McDonalds and P&G gathered at Davos to make their plastic pledges, it may seem that there is little that small businesses can do. But there are some very easy steps you can take to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic in the workplace.

As a first principle, it is better to reduce and reuse plastic waste than merely to collect it for recycling. With China now unwilling to take our mixed plastic waste, this waste is building up at recycling centres and we do not yet have the capacity within the UK to recycle it all — although the technology now exists to recycle most types of plastic packaging.
