Is anything definite being done by the international community to tackle the problem of ocean plastics?

In the first week of December 2017, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) convened a meeting in Nairobi at which 200 nations pledged to take action on ocean plastics. No binding targets have been set but an international task force will be set up to consider the problem. Undoubtedly, this is a step in the right direction but there was disappointment at the December meeting that the USA and China were unwilling to commit to definite targets. China is the world’s biggest source of marine plastic pollution.
