We understand that the Government has agreed to look into providing improved mental health support for NHS staff. What form will this take and when can we expect it to happen?

The Department of Health and Social Care announced at the end of February that plans to give NHS staff immediate access to dedicated mental health support will be considered as part of the upcoming Workforce Implementation Plan.

The Government states that initiatives could include:

  • post-incident support for NHS frontline staff, such as peer group support or a more formal psychological assessment

  • a dedicated mental health support service giving confidential advice and support 24 hours a day
