What changes are being introduced by the new government guidance on healthcare waste?
The Environment Agency (EA) has just closed its consultation on an updated technical guidance document, Appropriate Measures for Permitted Facilities That Take Healthcare Waste. This sets out the appropriate measures for permitted facilities that transfer or treat healthcare waste. The guidance is being revised in response to a scandal in which hundreds of tonnes of hazardous medical waste were allowed to build up at a waste facility.
