New electronic waste tracking scheme

As part of the Resources and Waste Strategy, the Government intends to introduce a mandatory digital waste tracking scheme. This proposal was included in the Environment Bill published in October 2019. The objectives of the digital tracking scheme are:

• to reduce waste crime by identifying points at which waste descriptions are changed, or waste disappears from the system. Criminals currently mislabel waste in order to dispose of it or export it illegally
